What is the Pie Face Challenge?
In 2017 I tried to start a Pie Face Challenge to raise money and awareness (like the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS). The idea was you ask a friend to throw a plate of whipped cream at your face (it's hilarious and more fun than it sounds!) and then you would donate five dollers to any website that helps gorillas (such as Gorilla Doctors, Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, or Ellen's new Wildlife Fund). Once you did the challenge, you would post your video to social media and then nominate three or four friends to also do the challenge. But this idea didn't really catch on. So I decided to try something else...
I was trying to think of a way to get people excited about our t-shirt fundraiser. About 18 shirts had sold, which was awesome, but with just a few days left before the fundraiser closed, I wanted to end the campaign strong. So I posted a video that announced that I'd get "pied" for each t-shirt that sold. And guess what! It worked! In the last 5 days, an additional 18 shirts were bought. Between t-shirt profits and direct donations, I was able to raise just over $500! Here are the videos of me getting pied to thank my supporters.
So that has become my new way of getting people excited to spread the word or donate! And we will keep coming up with funny and creative ways to get "pied" and then share the videos! For Earth Day, we did a quick one day fundraiser for DFGF and the ED Wildlife fund. We told our supporters that
>5 shares or donations=Addy gets pied
5-10 shares or donations=Addy + Sarah get pied
11-15 shares or donations=Addy + Sarah+ Brandon get pied
>15 shares or donations OR >$100 donated= whole family pie party!
We were excited that we had14 Facebook shares, 6 retweets and another $185 raised for the Fossey Fund. So the whole family got pied!
